Movers are here

The movers have arrived and started putting my life in their truck.  Even though I pay for their service I still felt the need to apologize about the steps when the arrived. 2 Flights down to the front door ( I live on the side of a mountain) then one more back up when you get inside. I don’t think they really like my sectional couch too much right now.

I feel like I’m getting in the way so I’m sitting here, writing a blog on one of the last chairs to be left in the house, its just dawned on me that this will be teh last posting from here, and I have no idea where the next one will be from.

Weird.

Most people have a house to move to when the leave a place, I’ve kinda decided to put all my stuff in storage and go on a road trip instead.

We’ll see how it turns out…..

A tale of two road trips…..

The first of my 2 road trips is now over, it was a lot of fun and since getting back I’ve been preoccupied with packing up everything I own rather than blogging.

I hate packing.

I did however remember to take my camera (zoom lens and all!) and get some good pics. The one that got away was a black widow spider that I found in my hotel room, which I should have taken at least one pic of.

Banana Slug

I havent posted in a while as I’ve been on a bit of a road trip, it involved drinking, eating, laughing with friends and taking lots of photos. One of which was of this monster, known as a banana slug.

I think ‘ewwwww’ sums it up quite well.

Photography 101 Dont forget the zoom lens

I’ve had some friends in town and I’ve been out and about a fair bit showing them the sights and enjoying the good spell of weather. I did the same monster hike that I did last summer with them, it was slightly easier this time as it was a cooler day, although it was clear at the top so the views were amazing again.

I also took them on a far easier hike to a stunning lake, however the previous day (on the monster hike) I had taken all my camera gear and decided I didn’t need the extra weight of a zoom lens.

Idiot.

While still on the loggers road driving to the trail head we spotted a mama bear and her 2 cubs, no amount of post picture cropping can bring the photos up to the level they would have been if I had just sensible enough to take the zoom.

Renting DVDs

I dont know about you but whenever I go to rent a DVD I end up spending ages looking and then end up getting something totally random.  There are loads of movies that I want to see but when faced with a huge selection I decided that ‘Hmm, not really in the mood for that tonight‘ and select something I have never even heard of.

On the one hand its a great way to see random films but on the other it just seems a bit weird.

Laughing Magpie and the Argentinean impostor

I bought a bottle of 2006 Laughing Magpie shiraz/viognier last weekend and it was superb. At $45 a bottle its waaay more than I would normally spend on a bottle of red to go with dinner but I was cooking something a bit special so I thought I would spend a bit more than normal.

Tonight I’m having steak, and again have spent more on the basic than normal, the steak is from Blue Goose and the better beef comes at the higher price, I didn’t however continue the liberal spend on the wine and have ended up with a bottle less than half the price and about a quarter as good.  It’s not bad, it’s just I think I have ruined cheaper wines for me for a while.

I can’t afford my tastes, and I don’t even know much about wine!
